LIFE…………..SUNSHINE……………RAIN…………….HOPE!

LIFE……………..SUNSHINE………..RAIN………..HOPE

Garden with Sunshine & Rain

One morning a few weeks ago, the sun was shining brightly then suddenly it began to rain at the same time.

The sunbeams and raindrops moved together in an intricate, intimate dance leaving a blanket of beautiful sparkling crystals all
over the garden.

As I watched this unusual phenomenon, I thought of how it was so reflective of life in general.

If we are honest, most days and seasons of our lives are a simultaneous mixture of sunshine and rain.

You close the biggest business deal in your career and your wife calls to say she is filing for a divorce.

You finally meet the man of your dreams and the doctor calls you in to say you have a terminal illness.

Your kids are doing well in school now your house is about to be re-possessed.

The car is finally running great and now the washing machine has stopped working.

You managed to pay the rent now the power company is threatening to turn off your power supply.

Your oldest daughter fresh out of college announces her new job and your youngest daughter fresh into junior high announces that she is pregnant.

The kids have left home and you are excited to finally spend quality time with your spouse only to find your relationship is in shreds and you do not know each other anymore.

The Pastor delivers powerful messages and teachings on marriage, family and relationships now families and marriages once
considered stable are falling apart.

The old regime has finally crumbled and the new government is in power yet there is more unrest, agitation and uncertainty than ever before.

So what do we do when we find ourselves in these types of oxymoronic situations?

What do we do when we find ourselves in situations where it is the best of times yet the worst of times, where the sun is shining yet it is raining at the same time?

Acknowledge the rain (circumstances), but focus on the sun (Son) and hope in Him.

There is an old eighteenth century hymn written by Edward Mote that really captures where our hope needs to rest and be built on in these tumultuous times that we live.

Its name and lyrics are as follows:-

“My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”

1. My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

3. His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When every earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne!
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

Here are some scriptures that will encourage you and fill your heart, mind and soul with hope:-

Psalm 27:3, 5

“Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.” (NKJV)

Psalm 27:13-14

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!” (NKJV)

Psalm 28:7

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.” (NKJV)

Psalm 31:24

“Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the LORD.” (NKJV)

Psalm 39:7

“And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.” (NKJV)

Pslam 42:11

Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.” (NKJV)

Psalm 119:114

“You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.” (NKJV)

Psalm 146:5

“ Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the LORD his God,” (NKJV)

Jeremiah 17:7

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD.” (NKJV)

Be encouraged and hope in Him!
