YOU CAN’T MOVE FORWARD LOOKING BACK
Can you imagine getting into a vehicle and setting out to a new destination all the while looking in the rear view mirror?
For as absurd as this may sound, sometimes we Believers metaphorically do the very same thing.
When God decrees a new thing or path for our lives, instead of setting out to attain it with a forward focus and hearts and minds open to His “now” instructions, methods and resources, we set out to attain it with a backward focus and hearts and minds clouded by His “then” methods, instructions, and resources.
In other words, we try to move forward looking back.
Is there some new thing that God has instructed you to do, or some new place God has instructed you to go?
NEWSFLASH – YOU CAN’T MOVE FORWARD LOOKING BACK!
You can not successfully move forward into a new thing looking back to what God said back then, to how God moved back then, to what God provided back then, or to who or what God used back then.
YOU CAN’T MOVE FORWARD LOOKING BACK!
Are you trying to move forward while looking back?
If so, the Lord says to you the same words of wisdom that He spoke through the prophet Isaiah centuries ago:-
“Do not [earnestly] remember the former things; neither consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs forth; do you not perceive and know it and will you not give heed to it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:18, 19 – Amplified Bible)
As you move toward the new thing that God has decreed for your life, remember that you cannot expect to attain it looking back to former things and considering things of old.
By His grace take the time to discern and embrace His “now” who, what, where, when, why and how and not be encumbered by His “then” who, what, where, when, why and how.
Be encouraged to learn from the past, be guided by the Word in the present, and keep your spirit open to His voice concerning the future.
