PUTTING OFF RECEIVING CHRIST?
I posted the below poem in February of 2010 and thought I’d post it again for those persons who know that the Spirit of God is calling them to a place of repentance and relationship with the Father through accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, but keep putting it off, thinking, “I’ll do it later”, “I’ll do it when I get older” or “I’ll do it tomorrow”.
The poem is a reminder that tomorrow is not promised to anyone and death is no respecter of person, place, or time.
Hebrews 9:27 tells us it is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgment so the time to receive Christ as your Savior and Lord is today.
His name was William his friends called him Bill,
He was still young, not quite over the hill,
His wife Sue, concerned about his eternal fate,
Pleaded, “Honey please accept the Lord before it’s too late”.
“I’ll get saved later Sue!” Bill sharply said,
His words cut through her spirit and hit her like lead,
“I’m successful, I’m healthy, I’m happy, I’m free,
I will not be tied down by that old drudgery.”
So Bill kept on going his own merry way,
He slept, ate, drank, worked and rose up to play,
But little did he know that the next day at four,
The death angel would visit and be knocking at his door.
He awoke early as usual doing his do,
Then sat at the table and had breakfast with Sue,
She held his hand tenderly again expressing her heart,
But to her dismay he wanted absolutely no part.
Bill left home that morning not giving Sue a nod,
Totally annoyed by her obsession with God.
He thought to himself I’m a hit not a miss,
Why does my wife have to carry on like this?
He entered his office dressed sharp as a tack,
Of compliments and adoring looks there was no lack.
He chaired the board meeting with agility and flair,
And left feeling good with his head in the air.
Walking back to his desk Bill began to feel strange,
It was 3:59, now his world would change.
Like an arrow a searing pain shot through his head,
And at 4:00 pm sharp he collapsed dead.
Bill’s coworkers were stunned, full of unbelief,
His wife Sue was laden with unfathomable grief,
How can this be? they all said,
How can a man so alive drop down dead?
The moral of the story is clear as can be,
Bill played around with eternity,
He was hardheaded though he knew what to do,
You’ve read about him, now what about you?
“For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16 (KJV)
“……..behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”
(II Corinthians 6:2 – KJV)
