A TRAGIC PLANE CRASH – NOW THE BAHAMAS MOURNS A GREAT LOSS
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”
(Psalms 116:15 – KJV)
Today the atmosphere of my nation still swirls with shock, unbelief, sadness and grief after the news of the tragic deaths of Founder and President of Bahamas Faith Ministries, Dr. Myles Munroe and his wife, Pastor Ruth Munroe, Senior Vice-President Dr. Richard Pinder, newly installed Youth Pastors Lavard and Radel Parks and their son Johannan, pilots Stanley Thurston and Frahkan Cooper and one more un-named passenger.
Reports indicate that on Sunday afternoon they were about to land in Freeport, Grand Bahama to attend Dr. Munroe’s 2014 Global Leadership Forum when the plane they were traveling in crashed into a crane killing all of them instantly on impact.
What a blow!
What a blow to their family members, friends and colleagues!
What a blow to their church family and the Body of Christ at large, both locally and internationally!
What a blow to the Bahamas!
What a blow to the world!
What a blow!
Many had difficulty sleeping Sunday night due to questions, deep questions, especially the question “Why, why did this happen God, why?”
The truth is we may never know now why this tragic event happened.
The Word is clear that God’s ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts so there are some things we will never understand unless God chooses to reveal them to us.
The Living Bible translation of Isaiah 55:8-9, puts it this way, “This plan of mine is not what you would work out, neither are my thoughts the same as yours! For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than yours, and my thoughts than yours.” – Selah!
God in His wisdom, sovereignty and omniscience knew this event would happen and He knows why; it may have taken us by surprise but it did not take Him by surprise.
The Word of God is also clear that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose….all things may not look good, feel good or sound good, but by faith, it is important to believe that God is working them together for good to those who love Him, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
The Amplified Bible translation of Romans 8:28 puts it like this, “We are assured and know that God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.” – Selah!
In the wake of this tragedy, I believe that rather than asking “Why?”, it is more important to ask “What?” – Lord what are you saying? Lord what does this mean for the church? What does this mean for our nation? What does it mean for the world? Lord what needs to happen next? Lord what do you require? and to also to ask “How” and “When” and “Where” and “Who” and to wait on Him for answers.
In circumstances such as these it is more crucial than ever to lean into God and not away from Him and to press pass the questions we do not have answers to and trust Him……trust His perfect love for His children, His wisdom, His sovereignty, His Word, His purpose, His plan, His power and His timing.
This tragedy is an emotionally wrenching very difficult situation for many, especially for the loved ones and those closest to the persons who lost their lives.
Let’s pray that our Father, the God of all Comfort will comfort those who mourn, heal those who are broken hearted, impart the peace that passes all understanding to those whose minds and emotions are in turmoil, strengthen those who need strength for the days ahead, grant wisdom to the remaining and new leadership at Bahamas Faith Ministries International as they move forward in unchartered waters, and most of all pray that His Kingdom come, and His will be done in all of this to His Honor and Glory.
“FARTHER ALONG” – BISHOP CARLTON PEARSON
“Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”
(I Corinthians 15:51-51 – NKJV)
Father I thank you for each life and ministry gift that was on that plane; may their souls rest in peace.
